Hoppers Crossing Sporting Complex Complete

A mammoth $11 million redevelopment of the Mossfiel Reserve in Hoppers Crossing is complete.

The reserve includes new sports fields for cricket and rugby, six netball courts, two community pavilions, a half-court basketball court and a playground.

Sports Development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the project was one of Council’s largest infrastructure projects for 2019.

“This major Wyndham City project delivers a long-term vision for the reserve and comes after two years of construction,” Cr Maynard said.

“I’m proud Council has delivered this exciting redevelopment for the Hoppers Crossing community.”

The $11 million Wyndham City project was supported by the Victorian Government through a $1.8 million grant from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Cr Maynard said the reserve was a terrific place for residents from all walks of life to exercise and gather with family and friends.

“There’s a children’s playground, barbecue facilities and walking paths for people of all age groups to enjoy a stroll,” Cr Maynard said.

“In addition, the two pavilions can be used by any group in the community – including the Werribee and District Collectible Vehicle Club, which meets on site – and have kitchens, meeting spaces, change rooms and toilets.”

Cr Maynard said the redeveloped reserve would enable the Hoppers Crossing Netball Association, Wyndham City Rhinos Rugby Union Football Club and Mossfiel Cricket Club to thrive.

“With a total of more than 600 players, from five-year-olds to middle aged, these clubs have a special place in the Hoppers’ community,” Cr Maynard said.

“These clubs will use this reserve to practise play matches and host their awards nights.”

To celebrate the reserve’s opening, Wyndham City is partnering with local sports clubs to host a community event with fun activities at the reserve on Thursday 24th October from 4pm to 6pm.

There will also be a free barbecue and cars on display by the Werribee and District Collectable Vehicle Club. Registrations are not required and all are welcome to attend.
