With the winter season now underway, Hornsby Shire Council has unveiled its upcoming schedule of free guided bushwalks, aimed at providing an educational, safe and enjoyable outdoor experience for residents.

To be held at various locations in and around Hornsby Shire, the program of events caters for all ages and abilities, some targeted at beginners looking to take an easy stroll and others for more experienced bushwalking enthusiasts who can join a more challenging route.

Bushwalkers will be sure to learn a lot on these outings, with experienced guides providing fascinating insights into the natural and cultural history of the Bushland Shire. Highlights for this winter season include:

  • Blue Gum Walk, Hornsby
  • Kids Rock! Bushwalk, Cherrybrook
  • Wild Investigators Activity for 7-12 year olds, Fagan Park, Galston
  • Cascades Bushwalk, St Ives
  • Muogamarra Nature Reserve Bushwalk, Cowan
  • Djarra Ridge Bushwalk, Cowan
  • Sphinx to Bobbin Head Return Bushwalk, North Turramurra
  • Sams Creek Bushwalk, Berowra.

Hornsby Shire Council Mayor the Hon Philip Ruddock AO has encouraged locals to get involved in this bushwalking initiative.

“Winter is a fantastic time for residents to get out and about and see the Bushland Shire’s beautiful flora and fauna while learning from some of our experts,” said Mayor Ruddock.

“I challenge myself to walk 10,000 steps every day in the beautiful Bushland Shire and every day I discover a new flower, new vista or meet new people along the way. All of which reminds me how lucky I am to call Hornsby Shire home.”

The winter bushwalks are part of Hornsby Shire Council’s on-going program of guided walks which showcase the natural beauty of the Bushland Shire through the changing seasons. Programs are announced three times per year.
