  • A new website is asking Queenslanders to submit ideas to increase housing supply
  • Individuals, private enterprise, not for profit organisations and local governments with ideas to free up land, repurpose existing buildings into housing or brand-new concepts are able to submit their ideas
  • The Portal can be found at .

The Palaszczuk Government has today called for community input to address housing challenges, with the launch of a new online portal.

The Housing Opportunities Portal provides a simple way for Queenslanders to share their ideas that can help improve Queensland’s housing supply and unlock housing solutions throughout the state.

Anyone over 16 years of age, private enterprise, not for profit organisations and local governments can submit an idea individually or as a group.

Submissions can be immediate to short term housing opportunities or opportunities that may have barriers to development or require cross-government collaboration. Ideas that may take longer to deliver are also welcome.

Submissions will be assessed by the department in consultation with relevant agencies and may be referred to a cross agency working group for further consideration.

The launch of the portal follows the government’s second housing roundtable.

Quotes attributable to Deputy Premier Steven Miles:

“Have you got land or own buildings that could be repurposed into housing – or have thought up a project concept that could fast track housing for Queensland?” Mr Miles said.

“If so, we want to hear from you.

“We’re looking for ideas with potential to deliver new housing stock, whether that’s ways to free up land, repurpose existing buildings into housing, or brand-new concepts.

“All solutions are welcome. We may find some ideas fit well together, or ideas are put forward that could take existing plans to new heights.

“The opportunities you put forward will help us to continue working together to meet the housing needs of Queenslanders.

“We’ve been very clear – no one can address the housing crisis alone. It will take governments at all levels, private companies, industry and peak bodies, and the community, to ensure every Queenslander has a place to call home.”
