Western Australian households who do not have electricity supplied by Synergy or Horizon Power can apply for the McGowan Government’s $600 electricity credit from December 21, 2020.
Residents with embedded networks, sub-meters or other similar arrangements where electricity costs are recovered from households by a third party (strata management, caravan park or retirement village operators) need to apply online.
Each residential address is eligible to receive one $600 credit if the property incurred electricity costs at October 4, 2020.
Applications and supporting documents can be lodged through the Department of Finance’s website, via , from December 21, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
Those applying will need to have a copy of their identification, a bank statement of the nominated account, a copy of their lease agreement (if applicable) and an invoice for electricity costs covering October 4, 2020 scanned and ready to upload.
Applications submitted online will receive an email notification once the application is processed, and payments will be made into the household’s nominated bank account.
Eligible residential Synergy and Horizon Power customers do not need to apply; customers will automatically receive the credit on their electricity bill.
Pensioners who are registered for the Energy Concession Extension Scheme effective at December 4, 2020 do not need to apply, as the $600 credit will be paid directly into their nominated bank account prior to Christmas.
As stated by Finance Minister Ben Wyatt:
“I encourage eligible WA households not supplied electricity from Synergy or Horizon Power to apply for the McGowan Government’s Household Electricity Credit.
“Providing relief and support to all Western Australian households is an important element of our jobs and recovery plan, and there is no doubt $600 can go a long way for many WA households.
“While some portion of this will be saved by households, the majority is expected to be spent in our local economy, providing support for our local hospitality and retail businesses.
“By generating additional expenditure in the local economy, we’re supporting local jobs and we can make sure we recover from the pandemic, stronger than ever.”
