The Housing and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Ministerial Council (Ministerial Council) was held on 31 May 2024. The Ministerial Council welcomed the Hon Felix Ellis, the new Tasmanian Minister for Housing and Planning to his first Ministerial Council meeting.
Today, Ministers signed the new ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Agreement on Social Housing and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness (the Agreement). The Agreement will support the operation of Australia’s social housing and homelessness services sectors. The Agreement is underpinned by a new outcomes framework along with improvements to data and reporting.
The Ministerial Council discussed progress on the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Housing and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Plan (Plan). The Plan will be a 10 year strategy and outline how all levels of government can work together with the private and the community sector to deliver the short, medium and long term actions needed.
Further, Ministers used this opportunity to discuss a number of ongoing housing reform items, including joint responses to two recommendations from the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability and settling a coordinated national response to the Barriers to Institutional Investment, Finance and Innovation in Housing report recommendations.
Ms Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, Chair of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Housing Supply and Affordability Council also presented the State of the Housing System Report 2024 to the Ministerial Council which was launched on 3 May 2024, discussing its findings and the Supply Council’s priorities going forward.
The Ministerial Council will next meet in the last quarter of 2024.
