Just over a week after the historic signing of the $4 billion dollar remote housing partnership in the small community of Milikapiti in Tiwi Islands, residents are moving into new homes.
Seven families have moved into new homes in Milikapiti, totalling 37 new and upgraded homes for the community since 2016, with 8 more homes currently under renovations.
Nine Aboriginal Territorians are employed by DT Hobbs, seven of which were locals who were offered opportunities to train and work in the construction of the homes.
The housing works in Milikapiti has engaged 78 Territory businesses, including 52 in the construction industry and 26 supplementary businesses.
Since coming to Government, Territory Labor began the work of building and upgrading homes across remote communities, improving the Northern Territory Government relationship with Land Councils to overcome preventative diseases and overcrowding across the Territory.
The Lawler Labor Government is one that will continue to invest in the Territory – securing $4 billion for Territory businesses, which results in work and better homes right across the Territory.
