The 2024 NSW Local Government Election is on Saturday 14 September 2024.
If you are unable to making it to a polling centre on election day, there are several ways to vote leading up to election day.
Postal vote
Postal voting applications . You can or and return it to the NSW Electoral Commission.
Applications close at 5pm, Monday 9 September.
In person
For the 2024 NSW Local Government elections, pre-poll voting is available from Saturday, 7 September to Friday, 13 September 2024 (excluding Sunday) for eligible electors. Electors will be asked to verbally declare the reason they are voting early.
You must vote at a venue that is located within your enrolled council area (or ward if you live in a divided council area). Use the to find your council or ward.

Assistance for voters
Braille ballot papers
Braille ballot papers will be available for the 2024 NSW Local Government election. Electors who wish to vote using braille ballot papers can apply by calling us on 1300 135 736 or by email to
Applications for braille ballot papers are open from Monday, 1 July to 6pm on Monday, 5 August 2024.
Braille ballot papers can be:
- posted to an elector’s enrolled address or an alternative address, or
- delivered to a voting centre (during pre-poll or for election day) within the elector’s council area, where the papers will be completed in person.

Telephone assisted voting
Telephone assisted voting is only available to people who are blind or have low vision.

Residents are reminded that it is compulsory to vote in local government elections. Fines apply for people who do not vote.
