A Sydney Police Officer last month conducted a roadside baby delivery – rather than a roadside breath test in Sydney’s southwest.
About 1.15pm on Saturday 8 October 2022, Senior Constable Tim Burnett attached to Georges River Highway Patrol was conducting stationary speed enforcement duties along Williamson Road, Ingleburn, when a motorist pulled up beside him seeking assistance.
Being approached by a member of the public wanting help is not unusual, but on this occasion, while parked on the side of the road, it was something Tim was not expecting!
The motorist had his wife in the car who was about to give birth and Tim was asked to help with the delivery.
Without hesitation, Tim offered reassurance to the couple and within a matter of minutes he had delivered a beautiful baby girl.
One month later – in a far less stressful situation – Tim reunited with proud parents Sela and Eugene at their Sydney home and met their beautiful daughter, Winter.
Officers often have rewarding moments in their careers – and it really doesn’t get much better than delivering a baby during a shift!
Fortunately, Tim has decided to remain with the NSWPF rather than changing careers to become an obstetrician.
