Police have kept guard at the scene of a suspicious fire overnight, after a hydroponic cannabis set up was discovered inside a Bankstown home.
Emergency services were called to the single-level house in Percy Street about 6.15pm (Saturday 11 May 2019), responding to reports a house was on fire.
Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW contained the fire to the front room of the house, but when they entered the building to check if anyone was inside, they discovered an enhanced cannabis cultivation set up.
The site was handed over to Bankstown Police Area Command about 8.15pm after it was declared safe.
A guard was left on the premises overnight, and a crime scene warrant will be executed this morning.
Police believe at least five rooms are being used for the cultivation of cannabis and it will be dismantled later today.
No one was found on the premises and inquiries are now underway into the identity of those responsible.
