Wyndham City is turning the spotlight on the many activities and programs for people with disability available in Wyndham and encouraging residents to have a go.
Wyndham City partnered with Get Skilled Access over the past 18 months to have a Sport4All Inclusion Coach based in Wyndham.
The coach has helped schools and organisations to build knowledge, skills and confidence to create safer and welcoming environment for people with disability to be active.
Wyndham City’s Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera, said there was more than 20 Wyndham sport and physical activity organisations involved in the Sport4All disability inclusion program, aiming to provide inclusive and accessible sporting opportunities for people with disability.
“There are fun activities available at locations across our city,” she said.
“Basketball at Eagle Stadium in Werribee is very popular, there’s also a netball program at Eagle Stadium and there’s a circus program offered in Hoppers Crossing and a football (soccer) program in Point Cook – just to name a few.”
“Sport and physical activity help participants connect and make friends, get fit and have a fun time.”
“We’ve just launched the social media video ‘I can play MY way’ to encourage residents to take a chance and enjoy one or more of the inclusive activities available.”
“This is also a good time to remind everyone that there are accessible sporting opportunities for those with disability to be a coach, referee, volunteer or committee member within Wyndham.”
