IAG supporting customers impacted by heavy rain and severe floods
IAG, whose brands include NRMA Insurance, CGU and WFI, and provides general insurance to Victorian-based RACV, is encouraging customers impacted by heavy rainfall and severe flooding in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania to lodge their claims as soon as possible to access immediate help.
Since 12 October 2022, IAG has received 1,287 claims due to the heavy rain and floods, with the majority of claims received from Rochester, Seymour, Maribyrnong, Bendigo and Nagambie in Victoria.
While some communities are in the clean-up and early recovery phase, the threat from floodwaters remains high for many communities with a large number of roads damaged, inaccessible or closed.
IAG expects claims numbers to rise over the coming week as floodwaters recede and people in high impacted regions return to their homes.
IAG Executive General Manager Direct Claims Luke Gallagher said: “We’re working closely with our partner builders who are assessing damage and conducting ‘Make Safe’ repairs wherever possible, however, it could take some days for high impacted towns and areas to become accessible.”
There are 14 emergency evacuation warnings currently in place in Victoria including Echuca, Bunbartha, Charlton, Murchison, Campaspe River, Shepparton and Rochester.
“The safety of the community and our customers is our top priority”, Mr Gallagher added.
Our Major Event Response team is closely monitoring the situation in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania to ensure we can be on the ground supporting our customers as soon as we can.

“We have put in place a range of measures to support impacted customers, such as providing temporary accommodation and conducting emergency ‘Make Safe’ repairs where it is safe to do so.
“We anticipate we will hear from more customers over the coming days as floodwaters recede and they can return home. We encourage customers to lodge their claims as soon as they can so we can provide them with immediate support.
“As always, we urge impacted residents to listen to the advice of their relevant state SES organisation and follow any evacuation orders,” Mr Gallagher said.
IAG welcomes the availability of the Federal Government’s Disaster Recovery Allowance to 23 impacted Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Victoria, 17 in Tasmania and an additional four LGAs in New South Wales.
