IAG supporting customers impacted by severe rain and floods

IAG, whose brands include NRMA Insurance and CGU, today encouraged customers impacted by the severe rain and floods across large areas of New South Wales to lodge their claims as quickly as possible to access immediate help.

As of midday Tuesday 5 July, IAG had received 1,233 claims across its brands from the severe weather impacting the state. The majority of claims are with NRMA Insurance for storm damage to properties.

The number of claims is likely to rise over coming days as heavy rains continue moving across New South Wales and as floodwaters recede and people return to their properties.

IAG Managing Director and CEO Nick Hawkins said people’s safety is the number one priority in flood affected areas.

“This is an incredibly difficult and stressful time particularly for people who have suffered multiple storms and floods in just the past few months and our teams are standing by to provide immediate help,” Mr Hawkins said.

“We’re urging customers to lodge their claims as soon as possible so we can ensure they’re safe by providing temporary accommodation if required and emergency financial assistance.

“At this stage the majority of claims received so far are for water entering through roofs, wind damage and fallen trees.

“With our Major Event Response Team in place all year round we’re well prepared to respond to multiple severe weather events and our teams are assessing damage to properties wherever possible, conducting Make Safe repairs and will be on the ground in the flood impacted areas as soon as waters recede.

“We’re also sending text messages to customers in the impacted areas with a link to quickly and easily lodge and track their claim online.

“Once again, the volunteers at our partners the NSW SES are putting their lives on the line to help the community, so we urge everyone to follow the directions of the emergency authorities and do not drive through floodwaters.”
