The Tasmanian Government is committed to bringing top level sport to Tasmania to help encourage visitation to the State and also inspire our young athletes to reach for the stars.
In more exciting news for Tasmanian cricket fans, Hobart’s Blundstone Arena will play host to nine ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches in October 2022, following today’s fixture announcement.
Hobart is one of the seven Tasmanian cities announced to host the international tournament, and joins host cities Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in holding matches scheduled for between 16 October – 13 November 2022.
Blundstone Arena will play host to a total of nine matches (six first round matches and three Super 12 matches) from 17 – 24 October, beginning with a first round match between the West Indies and Scotland at 3pm on Monday 17 October.
The 2022 event marks the eighth year the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been played, following a two-year postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This announcement caps off an exciting year for cricket in Tasmania, with Blundstone Arena recently playing host to the Fifth Ashes Test, giving Hobart international exposure as a premiere destination for sporting events.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to delivering elite sporting content and events that attract visitors, encourage intrastate travel and provide social, cultural and economic benefits to our State.
