Icon Cancer Centre staff step up for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

PCFA

Icon Cancer Centre staff across the country are leading the charge to help raise awareness of prostate cancer by joining The Long Run this September.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) Long Run campaign calls on Australians to run, walk or ride 72km throughout Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness and funds for research and support.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia with one Australian man diagnosed every 22 minutes.

Icon has come on board as a sponsor for the September event, with various prizes up for grabs to help inspire and motivate participants to go the distance.

Icon Cancer Centre Chief Executive, Paul Fenton said Icon is proud to be part of the campaign.

“Receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis, no matter what age, can fuel the fear of the unknown. Patients can become overwhelmed when it comes to choosing the best treatment option and may struggle to manage the physical and emotional side effects. The best way to help men through this challenging time is to work in partnership with organisations like PCFA, to support patients when they need it most,” Mr Fenton said.

“Icon is proud to work alongside PCFA to help reduce the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men and their families through support, research and awareness.”

Chief Executive Officer of PCFA, Anne Savage, commended the Icon team for making a difference.

“Community action is key to cancer control, helping us to raise awareness of Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer and encourage early detection,” Ms Savage said.

“Importantly, The Long Run helps us support men and their families, providing vital funding for clinical trials and PCFA prostate cancer nurses.

“Together we can make a difference, helping love go the distance against prostate cancer.”

Several thousand eager runners, walkers and cyclists are expected to join The Long Run this September, with a total goal of $1 million for research, support services and awareness.
