Iconic business recognised at business gongs

A major Mickleham business which is also an Australian household name has been recognised as the Business of the Year at this year’s .

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said Dulux Australia took out the Business of the Year 2019 Award for its innovation, contribution to the community and local jobs.

“This business is a highly successful advanced manufacturing business, employing a large team of chemists and technologists with expertise in new product development,” Cr Moore said.

“Its strengths lie in innovating and adding new capabilities to the business through strong investment in science and innovation.

“As part of its strong community focus, the business has helped more than 250 community organisations through fundraising, volunteering and direct donations.

“In 2018 a $165 million state-of-the-art facility was opened right here in Hume, in the newly established Merrifield estate.

“It is equal to any of the most technically advanced factories in the world, allowing for faster, greener, safer and more efficient production.

“Additionally, the new factory created more than 60 new jobs, with most of the new employees drawn from the local area.”

Councillor Moore said she was honoured to host the event and recognised the contribution of Hume businesses to the City.

“Hume businesses employ over 100,000 people, making a strong contribution to the local, state and national economy and that fact alone deserves recognition,” Cr Moore said.

“The breadth of business in Hume is remarkable, ranging from manufacturers, bio-medical, transport and logistics through to hospitality, retail and exporters.

“The Hume Business Awards provide a notable opportunity for us all to come together to celebrate the significant contribution local businesses each make to the local economy, and the community, through delivering exceptional service, quality, innovation, and supporting the economic prosperity of the region.”
