Transparency is crucial for families and first home buyers looking to get into the housing market.
However, many Tasmanians are purchasing properties only to find out their homes have major defaults not disclosed in the listing. This is costing families hundreds of thousands of dollars and, in some cases, their homes.
A Labor Government will provide better consumer protections for Tasmanians by requiring full disclosure of matters with the property, such as planning, plumbing and building.
This is what a 337 Certificate does, and by requiring a 337 Certificate upon the listing of a property for sale would provide more transparency and stronger consumer protections for Tasmanians.
All other states have mandatory disclosure laws to protect home buyers. Tasmania is, yet again, lagging behind under this Government.
The Local Government Association of Tasmania has been advocating for these changes for a considerable time, with the Government even considering these changes in 2016. So far nothing has been done.
Local Governments across Tasmania have voted unanimously for the requirement of a 337 Certificate disclosed upon the listing of a property. It has full support from councils and consumer groups.
The Government needs to provide Tasmanians with this added layer of protection so families do not lose even more money.
If the Liberals do not, Labor will.
