The CommBank Pararoos and ParaMatildas have discovered who they will meet in the group stage of the IFCPF World Cup 2024 following the Draw Ceremony on Wednesday morning.
In their 11th appearance at the World Cup, the CommBank Pararoos have been drawn in Group C alongside the USA, Netherlands and Thailand for the men’s tournament to be contested in Salou, Spain from 6 – 24 November, 2024.
Just five days later, the CommBank ParaMatildas will make their second World Cup appearance alongside the USA, Denmark, Ireland and Japan for the women’s tournament also to be contested in Salou, Spain from 11 – 20 November, 2024.
Following the Draw, CommBank Pararoos’ Head Coach Kai Lammert said he is looking forward to the group stage and hoping to improve on their past results.
“We want to test ourselves against the best in the world and this group gives us that opportunity,” Lammert said.
“We know that there are no easy games regardless of the draw and we’ll need to be prepared to push ourselves in Spain.
“We want to go to Spain and challenge these teams to advance to the next stage. Last time we finished 11th at the World Cup and our goal is to improve on that result this time around. The boys are excited and I am looking forward to the tournament,” concluded Lammert.
CommBank ParaMatildas’ Head Coach, Kelly Stirton is eagerly anticipating the return of international football after winning the 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships in Melbourne.
“It is going to be a very competitive World Cup with five strong nations competing for the world title,” Stirton said.
“There are many world class athletes we’re going to face but I’m confident our players can match it with the rest of the world and do Australia proud in this tournament.
“Now that the World Cup teams have been finalised, we can start to focus on how we want to play at the tournament and how we’re going to break down the other four teams. The World Cup is the biggest event on the Para football calendar and we are ready to represent Australia to the best of our abilities,” concluded Stirton.
The CommBank Pararoos and CommBank ParaMatildas have launched the Undefeated Challenge, a peer-to-peer fundraising event aimed at raising essential funds to send both teams to the 2024 IFCPF World Cup in Spain. Running from 30 September to 6 October 2024, this virtual week-long event encourages participants to run, walk, swim, ride, or roll as far as they can to support the teams’ World Cup journey. to learn more and get involved.
