Hollywood Private Hospital is expanding its comprehensive heart-care services with the addition of a new angiography suite.
The 15-bed day surgery unit will also feature its own entry, holding bays and a waiting area, with construction expected to start this month and be completed by mid-2023.
The redevelopment will also give the Perth facility a fourth cardiac procedure room.
Angiograms are a type of X-ray imaging that examine blood vessels by using a special dye, allowing diagnosis of conditions such as coronary heart disease, aneurysm and atherosclerosis.
Hollywood Private Hospital’s Deputy Director Clinical Services, Patricia Whalley, said the new angiography suite had been designed for enhanced patient experience.
“Day patients in the angiography suite will be able to stay from admission to discharge,” she said.
“Patients will benefit from cardiac specialists and state-of-the-art equipment all in one convenient location.”
The expansion follows the opening of a new cardiothoracic theatre in 2020, and Director of Medical Services John Maxwell said Western Australia’s largest private hospital was investing in the latest technology to attract the best specialists in heart care.
It now offers comprehensive cardiac services, boosted by the $67 million emergency department (ED) that opened in November 2021.
“Patients who present to the ED with cardiac issues will have access to extensive cardiac services,” Dr Maxwell said.
“Hollywood is the only hospital in the southern hemisphere offering Hybrid Catheter Ablation and Surgical Ablation (HyCASA) treatment for patients with long-standing atrial fibrillation.”
