  • Western Australians are invited to immerse themselves in a new virtual reality festival taking place later this year, as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival.

Titled XR:WA, the festival will present public and industry events that explore virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, computer animations and other forms of screen-based and immersive media.

XR:WA will provide an opportunity for participants to witness the latest innovative technologies, hear from the makers, and have their very own immersive experience such as through a virtual reality headset.

The industry component of the festival program will attract a broad range of local and international delegates to explore new ideas and experience local content from Western Australia’s growing immersive and interactive media sector.

XR:WA will take place from July 6 to 14, 2019 at venues across Perth and Fremantle.

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“XR:WA will showcase the work of Western Australia’s virtual reality pioneers, while giving audiences a chance to experience immersive technologies firsthand.

“This new festival is a catalyst for social, cultural and economic growth through exciting tourism and job opportunities.

“The McGowan Government is looking to the future by supporting and capitalising on this rapidly growing industry.”

As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:

“The realisation of this election commitment is another boost to increasing vibrancy and life in around Perth and Fremantle.

“It will bring more people into our entertainment precincts, boosting the local economy and supporting jobs.”
