Importance of Early Childhood Education and Care

Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) is a priority for many in our community given the strong evidence that access to high quality learning in early years has positive benefits for children’s social, emotional and developmental outcomes.

High quality ECEC not only impacts our growing children but helps to establish an integrated, respectful, inclusive and progressive community support network.

In a time where we’ve seen continuous change – particularly within the ECEC sector – it is imperative that children and families in Knox have access to the most accessible and nurturing education and care environments possible.

By joining Knox’s Early Years Advisory Committee (EYAC), you will play a pivotal role in advising Council on current and emerging issues affecting families and young children and advocate on their behalf.

The EYAC are now seeking expressions of interest to join the committee from 2022-2024.

“Over the past decades working as an early childhood educator, I have advocated for many families and their children on many issues. When I retired from the industry, I wanted to continue this advocacy and the EYAC has given me the perfect platform to do this.” says four-year EYAC member, Lynda Carroll.

Not only does EYAC welcome people with industry experience to apply, but also those who are looking to enhance their professional development.

Meg Stow, member from 2019, credits the EYAC with opening new doors and opportunities for her both professionally and personally – “It has taught me lifelong employability skills, given me a new outlook into the Council’s position to Early Years and helped me understand the importance of the industry “, says Meg.

If you’re looking to up-skill or be a voice for our community within ECEC, we’d love to hear from you. Express your interest via our by 27 June.
