Impressive numbers take part in 2020 Mildura Memory Walk & Jog
An astonishing 344 people from Mildura and beyond turned out this morning in support of Dementia Australia’s Memory Walk & Jog fundraising event at Nowingi Place.
Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe said it was a magnificent event and extended her thanks to everyone who participated, helped raised funds, spread the word, or gave a donation.
“We are delighted with the fantastic showing and the enormous levels of community spirit and support demonstrated throughout the event,” Ms McCabe said.
“As we know, many people impacted by dementia find these events a great way to connect with other local people in similar circumstances. And from what we witnessed, today was no different!
“It was inspiring to see 344 people out walking and running in support of people with dementia.”
Ms McCabe also acknowledged everyone who volunteered at the event.
“I would like to thank our many volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran safely and smoothly, and was enjoyable for all. The success of this event simply would not have been possible without your support,” she said.
The event saw attendees take part in either a 2km, 5km, or 9km, walk, run or jog, raising $21,300. This money will help provide invaluable support, education and resources for people impacted by dementia in Mildura and across Australia.
Today, there is an estimated 3,600 people living with dementia in the federal electorate of Mallee. With that figure projected to increase to about 4,500 by 2058, events like Memory Walk & Jog play an important role not only in funding support but also in raising awareness of dementia.
