New Explore Parks website now easier to navigate and more accessible on mobile devices
Upgraded Park Stay WA online campsite booking system allows for better management of WA’s campsites and gives campers more flexibility to cancel or change bookings
There are 65 campgrounds with 1953 campsites available for booking through Park Stay WA
About 120,000 campsite bookings were processed through Park Stay WA in 2021, resulting in about 971,000 camper nights booked
WA’s parks receive about 20 million visits per year
New and improved versions have been launched of Park Stay WA, the online booking system used to book campsites managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service in Western Australia’s national parks, and the visitor-focused Explore Parks website.
Improvements to the Parks and Wildlife Service’s Explore Parks website, which usually attracts more than 300,000 visits per month, means it is easier to navigate, better caters to mobile users, includes information about accessible parks and links directly to the Trails WA website.
The recent upgrades to Park Stay WA gives campers more autonomy when booking by allowing people to create an account, make a booking, and then make changes or cancel the booking if needed.
It is hoped the changes to the system will reduce the number of bookings that are made but go unused when campers do not take possession of the site on the booked date, arrive at the site late, or leave early.
Under the previous system, some campsites went unused if the person who booked the site did not arrive on the date it was booked. Since 2017, the McGowan Government has invested $4.7 million to maintain and upgrade existing campgrounds and facilities and create 79 new campsites across WA.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:
“The improvements to the Explore Parks and Park Stay WA websites will help more Western Australians and visitors to our State experience the incredible nature and culture of our national parks.
“The new Explore Parks website is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easier than ever to discover the unique and diverse range of attractions, activities and experiences on offer in our parks.
“Camping is a popular leisure activity and many of WA’s campgrounds are extremely popular and book out well in advance, particularly during peak periods, meaning no shows cause frustration for campground hosts and other campers.
“We know circumstances can change and the upgrades that have been made to the Park Stay WA booking system will make it easier for campers to change or cancel their bookings when required, meaning sites can be easily re-booked and more people can experience the enjoyment of camping in national parks.”
