Shoalhaven City Council will commence improvement works from Monday 11 October 2021 to make the Junction Court area more pedestrian-oriented. The woks have been funded by the NSW State Government’s Your High Street grant program.

Council’s Nowra CBD Revilisation Strategy Committee endorsed the project following several months of design development.

The concept for the upgrade, which features a ground mural over the paths and street, was prepared by landscape consultant Place Score, in consultation with Council’s staff and the Nowra CBD Revitalisation Strategy Committee including input from local business owners.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said the key elements of the project included improving the look and feel of the precinct, improving pedestrian comfort and safety along with shading and seating installation and incorporating children play and activity areas.

“I’m delighted to see the works get underway this month to transform the Junction Court area into a more community-friendly space to attract more visitors to Nowra CBD”, Clr Findley said.

“The project was made possible as a result of a successful $935,000 State Government grant application under the Your High Street Grant Program”, Clr Findley stated.

“Whilst the works will see some disturbance to adjacent local businesses, we appreciate the community’s patience whilst these works are undertaken.”

On Monday 11 October Junction Court will be closed to all vehicle traffic to allow construction safety fence to be installed prior to work commencing.

Most of the construction work will be undertaken by Council’s own construction crews, supplemented by specialist sub-contractors as required. The area will remain closed to traffic until the work is completed by Friday 10 December 2021.

Whilst pedestrian access will be maintained though the duration of construction, pedestrian will still need to take care in the vicinity of the works and abide by signage and the instruction of construction staff.
