Mornington Peninsula Shire is improving intersection safety at Boneo Road/Besgrove Street, Rosebud ahead of the opening of the new Aquatic Centre.

To provide safe access to the new Aquatic Centre in Rosebud, changes will be made including the installation of traffic signals and a right turn ban from Boneo Road into Allambi Avenue. These changes will be made in late 2020.

“The new Aquatic Centre in Rosebud will transform the local area and provide so many opportunities for our community,” Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said.

“This will bring a higher number of pedestrians, including children, visiting the facility for the many services it will provide.”

“By proactively making changes to the intersection, we’re prioritising road safety for all road users in the area,” he said.

These changes will provide a safer intersection for pedestrians and the increased traffic for the Aquatic Centre. The changes will also eliminate long traffic queues exiting Allambi Avenue at school times.

In accordance with Department of Transport traffic cycle times, the right turn will be banned to limit delays on Boneo Road.

Drivers turning right into Allambi Avenue from Boneo Road will need to do a u-turn at the Mornington Peninsula Freeway roundabout or turn right earlier at Cain Street and travel along Cain Street then Illaroo Street.

Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi said “we want to make sure the local community, including schools and the Seawinds Community Hub, are aware of the changes that have been proposed in consultation with the Department of Transport.”

Seawinds Ward Councillor Frank Martin said “road safety is of utmost importance to Council and that’s why we’re thinking ahead to make changes for the increased traffic around the Aquatic Centre.”

Seawinds Ward Councillor Simon Brooks said “we’re looking forward to the Aquatic Centre becoming a vibrant meeting point for the community, and that involves suitable traffic management.”

Community members are invited to attend a drop-in session to learn more about the changes:
