The RMIT community joins the world in mourning the loss of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Recognised as an exceptional leader who devoted her life to the service of others, Queen Elizabeth was not only admired for her resilience and sense of duty but loved and respected by so many of her constituents around the globe.
As Britain’s longest reigning monarch, she ruled during times of enormous change and great upheaval. A historic figure deeply rooted in tradition she demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with generations of people across the years of her reign.
In 1954, RMIT was awarded royal patronage by Queen Elizabeth II for its educational service to the Commonwealth and contribution to the war effort.
As an institution of learning, we remember her words, “change has become a constant, managing it has been become an expanding discipline, the way we embrace it defines our future.”
The University remains the only higher education institution in Australia with the right to use the prefix “Royal” and the Monarchy’s coat of arms.
Today we remember the patronage of Her Majesty and extend our sympathies to all who knew and loved her.
