Independent Reviewer appointed for ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Redress Scheme

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston today announced the appointment of Ms Robyn Kruk AO as the Independent Reviewer for the second anniversary review of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Redress Scheme.

Minister Ruston said the Scheme has been in operation for two years and it was important to reflect on the Scheme to ensure its continued improvement for survivors.

“We understand survivors have been waiting a long time for redress, so it’s important the review captures what matters most to them,” Minister Ruston said.

“I encourage survivors of institutional child sexual abuse, survivor support services, advocacy groups and institutions to have their say in the review of the Scheme.”

The Independent Reviewer Ms Kruk will consider submissions and make recommendations to government to enhance the operation of the Scheme.

Ms Kruk was previously the Independent Assessor for the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce and is currently the Chair of Mental Health Australia.

In 2018, Ms Kruk was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to public administration, including through mental health reform.

“Ms Kruk brings a combination of skills as both an experienced assessor as well as a thorough understanding of mental health to the role,” Minister Ruston said.

“I look forward to receiving the recommendations on how to improve the operation of the Scheme from Ms Kruk,” Minister Ruston said.

Consultations will begin in July 2020. The final review report is expected to be provided to government in February 2021.
