- The inaugural Quantum Innovation Queensland (QIQ) meeting has been held today in Brisbane.
- The meeting brought together experts in quantum technologies, science, research and commercialisation to help drive Queensland’s quantum technology future
- QIQ will provide expert advice on the implementation of the Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Strategy and will focus on the coordination of quantum and advanced technologies capability across research, industry, and government.
The Palaszczuk Government’s push to enhance Queensland’s status as a world leader in quantum technology has achieved a major milestone today with the inaugural meeting of Quantum Innovation Queensland (QIQ) in Brisbane.
QIQ will bring together some of the world’s best and brightest minds from across the quantum ecosystem and will provide expert advice to government on the implementation of the $76 million Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Strategy and Queensland Quantum Academy.
The new governance group will be led by Queensland Chief Scientist Professor Kerrie Wilson and bring together a diverse set of expertise from across research, commercialisation, and investment to guide the implementation of the strategy.
Quantum technology is a key part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to new industry development and job creation alongside the Energy and Jobs Plan, Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy and the Queensland New-Industry Development Strategy.
QIQ will also support the commercialisation of research and intellectual property in Queensland through the provision of strategic advice and insights for attracting and building new advanced technology business in the state, creating skilled jobs on home soil.
The Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Strategy leverages Queensland’s outstanding research and fabrication capabilities across quantum and other related technologies such as semiconductors, superconductors, photonics, and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), for application in industry sectors such as renewable energy, critical minerals, batteries, medicine, and defence.
The strategy has five key pillars:
- Deep science capability to maintain Queensland’s leadership position in quantum science
- Science commercialisation to grow the local quantum and advanced technologies pipeline
- Quantum workforce to train, attract and retain the skilled people needed for a quantum ecosystem
- Engagement and missions to help industry to become adept at using deep science to solve Queensland’s challenges
- Investment to attract external commitments into the Queensland quantum ecosystem
