“The Australian Industry Group in Victoria (Ai Group) has welcomed today’s easing of restrictions on both businesses and the community in the State,” Tim Piper, the Victorian Head of Ai Group said today.
“Ai Group members have been telling us for some time that they are ready for the return of employees to the workplace and the announcement that 25% can return will allow them to start planning. This is a good first step, but the Government could have allowed even greater use of offices in suburban and regional areas.
“The increase in the number of customers within hospitality businesses is timely with the festive and holiday seasons approaching. This sector has been one of the hardest hit and this will provide the opportunity to make the most of the busiest time of the year.
“Family gatherings are always important but especially so during the holiday season and the increase in the number of people that can gather at home, in business and outdoors will be a huge boost to the community and economy.
“With 23 consecutive days of no new coronavirus cases the removal of the requirement to wear face masks outdoors is prudent. We would like the Government to seriously reconsider the use of face masks in industry, as on hotter days in an unairconditioned environment the use of masks will be harder to administer.
“We now look forward to businesses being able to operate in a COVID normal arrangement and Victorians having a Christmas that allows families to be together,” Mr Piper said.
