Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad are appealing for further information following the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Coburg earlier this week.
The incident occurred in parkland beside Merri Creek, just north of the footbridge near Harding Street, sometime after 6.30pm on Tuesday, 3 December.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man enter or travel through the parkland and adjacent areas between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on the night.
Following the incident, the victim and the man walked to a fast food restaurant at the intersection of Albion and Holmes streets in Brunswick.
On arrival there about 10.00pm, it’s believed a number of people were inside the premises at the time and also rendered assistance to the victim.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the victim and the man inside the restaurant or saw them walking to the venue to come forward.
It’s also believed a number of vehicles were in the area around the time of the incident and may have captured dash-cam footage of the man or the man with the victim.
Detectives are asking anyone who was driving through the area between 8.00pm and 10.00pm on 4 December and captured dash-cam footage, to contact police.
A 25-year-old Coburg man was arrested by police in Carlton about 1.30am on 4 December.
He was subsequently charged with multiple further charges including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, reckless conduct endangering life and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
The man has also been charged following an alleged attempted robbery at a service station on Lygon Street, Carlton just before 1am on 4 December.
He has been charged with one count of attempted armed robbery in relation to this incident.
