The severe weather incident that occurred in Waurn Ponds and Mount
Duneed at approximately 1am on Wednesday 20 May has had a significant impact on
many people in our community. By 4pm on Wednesday, we were aware of over
40 homes with major roof damage and others with severe structural damage.
Your safety following this severe incident is a priority for the
City as well as Victoria Police, State
Emergency Services and the Country Fire Authority and we have worked together
since the event occurred to ensure residents’ safety. The Metropolitan
Fire Brigade have also assisted with drone footage of the area which has helped
with research and response. Our building surveyors have been inspecting damage
and our street sweepers were present early on Wednesday to clear debris.
To further assist with clearing debris from affected properties, a scheduled
waste collection will occur next week.
Security
Victoria Police have implemented an increased police presence in
the affected zone with a car and two officers in the area overnight on
Wednesday and the same arrangement is in place today following a change of
shift early in the morning. This arrangement will be reviewed by Victoria
Police daily. If you are concerned about safety or suspect criminal
activity, please call or visit Waurn Ponds Police station. In an
emergency, please do not hesitate to call 000.
You are encouraged to seek advice from your insurer or landlord with any
