Information regarding household battery recycling

A close-up of AAA and AA batteries, positive side up.

Due to the increased number of options available for recycling, Council has ceased its battery recycling service at its community links and is instead encouraging community members to recycle their household batteries at participating supermarkets, such as Woolworths, Coles and ALDI, which have battery collection points at each of their stores.

Battery recycling at local supermarkets makes recycling much more convenient for the community, given the longer hours of operation that supermarkets have, the significant number of stores in Yarra Ranges Council boundaries as well as them being more regularly visited.

Incorrectly disposed of batteries are a large contributor to garbage truck fires, so residents are encouraged to utilise this free program at their local Woolworths, Coles or ALDI to give their batteries a second life.

There are also a number of non-supermarket related businesses such as Officeworks that also accept household batteries. Please contact stores directly to confirm availability.
