The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is holding an information session on new jobs at its new regional licensing processing centre in Collie.
DMIRS is advertising nine positions for staff who will work at the centre housed in the former Commonwealth Bank building in Forrest Street.
A further, senior position is expected to be advertised in May.
The information session, which will inform prospective applicants about the jobs and how best to apply, will be held at the Collie Family Centre at 5 Forrest Street, on Tuesday March 24, 2020, starting at 12.30pm and running for about two hours.
Staff in the Collie office will process a range of licence applications and renewals, including dangerous goods, high-risk work (WorkSafe) and other occupational licences.
The new processing centre will not affect the operations of the department’s existing Mines Safety Office in Collie, which will continue to operate from its premises in Wittenoom Street.
As stated by Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston:
“The new Collie office gives the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety the ability to more efficiently deliver its licensing services to the region.
“The McGowan Government showed great foresight in creating the $60 million Industry Attraction and Development Fund for Collie last year – $300,000 of that money will be used to get this new office up and running.”
As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:
“These are 10 new jobs on the ground in Collie and there is potential for a further 10 jobs to be created further down the line.
“We are continuing to talk with private enterprises about how we can encourage them to invest in Collie’s future, but in the meantime we’ve established these public sector positions to show the McGowan Government is willing to do the same.
“I’d also expect there would be some positive flow-on to other businesses in town because we are filling an empty shop front in the main street.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in knowing more about the positions being created to attend the information session on March 24.”
