Information technology features in short course offerings

Information technology, education and nursing short courses will be offered by Queensland University of Technology in response to the Federal government’s Higher Education Relief Package.

The courses, offered in a bid to upskill Australians for a post-coronavirus world, are discounted six-month online offerings which will offer students either an undergraduate certificate or graduate certificate depending on their level of study.

The are available to domestic students, will commence in Semester 2 and are offered fulltime, online only. They will provide credit for further study pathways to QUT degree courses.

QUT will offer undergraduate certificates in Information Technology, Information Technology and Management, Information Technology and Digital Communication and Nursing. At the postgraduate level, QUT is offering a Graduate Certificate in Career Leadership and Learning.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education) Professor Robina Xavier said the courses were focused online programs that could be completed by 1 December.

“Successful completion of four units (subjects) will result in a formally recognised qualification, which can also be used as a pathway to a degree,” Professor Xavier said.

“These courses allow participants to upskill in areas with skills shortages or test out areas of study that they wish to pursue,” she said.

All of the study completed in the undergraduate certificates provide credit into a QUT bachelor degree. For example, the Undergraduate Certificate (Nursing) provides credit in the Bachelor of Nursing, and the Undergraduate Certificate (Information Technology and Management) provides choice for the Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Business or even a double degree.

The Government will subsidise the courses, which will cost from $1250 and the qualification will be recognised under the AQF. Nationally, 20,000 places will be offered in short courses.
