Grain growers heading to the coast for holidays this January are encouraged to get along to a ‘Summer Sesh’ event near them.

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Regional Cropping Solutions Network (RCSN) and the Kondinin Group are again hosting these informal events after initial get-togethers proved successful last January, attracting dozens of growers.

“Grain growers and industry personnel are invited to attend free Summer Sesh Open Forums in 2020 at Jurien Bay, Broadwater and Albany – where they can chat in a relaxed setting about issues affecting grower profitability,” said GRDC RCSN western region coordinator Julianne Hill.

“These events are an opportunity to raise ideas, including opportunities and constraints, that are relevant to the grains industry.

“This feedback will help guide and inform GRDC research, development and extension investments in the future with the aim of creating enduring profitability for grain growers

“GRDC staff and members of the GRDC’s Western Region Panel, will be available to talk to.”

GRDC RCSN coordinator Julianne Hill says GRDC Summer Sesh events are an opportunity for people to raise ideas that are relevant to the grains industry, in a relaxed setting.

Ms Hill said growers would also hear about on-farm grain storage from Kondinin Group research manager Ben White, the WA team member of the GRDC Grain Storage Extension Project.

“Ben will also provide a brief overview of some exciting agricultural technology on the horizon following his recent trip to Germany to attend Agritechnica, a leading trade fair for agricultural machinery,” she said.

Events will be held from 5 to 7pm, with free refreshments and snacks, at the following locations:

  • Jurien Bay Hotel, 5 White Street, Jurien Bay – Monday, January 13
  • Stilts, 11 Holgate Road (corner Bussell Highway), Broadwater – Wednesday, January 15
  • Due South, 6 Toll Place, Albany – Monday, January 20

These events are open to all farmers and industry representatives.
