A local government stalwart with more than 25 years’ experience has been appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer at Isaac Regional Council.
Councillors yesterday voted to appoint Ken Gouldthorp to steer the Isaac region through the next local government elections during an Ordinary Meeting at Moranbah Chambers.
Mr Gouldthorp, who has previous experience in the central Queensland resource region with past appointments at Mackay and Emerald, will begin the 12-month interim CEO position on Tuesday, 8 August 2023.
Mayor Anne Baker said the appointment followed a recruitment campaign seeking a suitably qualified professional to guide the organisation for the next 12 months.
“We sought an experienced leader for the top job to focus on delivering key strategic projects ahead of the March council elections,” Mayor Baker said.
“Ken has proven ability to effectively manage large, complex teams and build strong relationships across government, industry, business, and community.
“Ken has led a number of local governments across Australia, most recently serving as Interim CEO for Snowy Valleys Council in the Murray Riverina region.”
Council will conduct a recruitment campaign seeking a permanent chief to lead Australia’s largest resources region following the local government election in 2024 and the conclusion of the interim appointment.
Council employees more than 400 people across an area the size of Tasmania that has seven Traditional Custodian groups and 17 unique communities.
