Greater Shepparton City Council has awarded an extension of the kerbside collection contract, from 1 November 2023 until 22 January 2025, after the previous tender process was abandoned.
The extension of contract has been awarded to Veolia for kerbside collection services and recyclable processing and to Western Composting for food organics and garden organics processing. Both companies are currently contracted to provide these services for Greater Shepparton.
The interim contract ensures a continuation of kerbside collection from the period of time when the current contract ends and new contracts commence. Council officers will undertake the procurement process for the following contracts which will take effect from 23 January 2025.
The interim period contract is being entered into due to the abandonment of the Collaborative Procurement Tender recommendation earlier this year.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, said the continuation of the kerbside collection service was foremost in Councillors’ minds when making the decision.
“We recognise the importance that any disruption to the kerbside collection would cause, including the risk to human health and the environment,” he said.
“The interim contract will provide time for Council officers to go out with another tender for kerbside collection, recycling and organic waste processing. It would not be possible to tender for a contract that would need to be in place by 1 November.
“We look forward to seeing the result of the next tender and would like to reassure residents there will be no impact to their current collection service.”
