International Day of People with Disability

Council is celebrating International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD), held annually on 3 December. This United-Nations observed day aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions to community.

During the past year, Council has created an important piece of work to address attitudes and behaviour towards people with a disability. This is the ‘Live My Experience’ virtual reality (VR) project. Through this immersive VR experience, community members are invited to step in the shoes of someone with a disability and ‘live their daily life.’

To mark IDPWD, Council is inviting community members to head to Westfield Tuggerah on Tuesday 6 December to participate in the ‘Live My Experience’ immersive VR experience, which will be available to view throughout the day.

You can see a video of the VR project above.

This is just one of the ways Council is demonstrating its commitment to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities to be able to fully participate and contribute to community life on the Coast now and into the future. Find out more about how we are creating an
