International Flights Sweep Into Broome

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

International flights return to Broome today with Jetstar Asia launching twice a week passenger services to and from Singapore.

The new route will operate directly to Changi Airport, connecting Broome to this economic hub and unlocking travel to South East Asia, with itineraries to further destinations including Thailand, Indonesia and Japan.

This connection has been enabled through the Albanese Government’s approval of the international gateway and the establishment of necessary border force and customs.

Bringing this international entry point back into Western Australia for the first time since COVID signifies a positive step for the return of air travel.

The service will operate initially until 26 October 2024.

Quote attributable to Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King:

“The return of scheduled international services will provide a significant boost to Broome and the surrounding regional economy in WA, including the tourism industry.

“These international services give North West WA communities global connectivity to other Asia Pacific and European destinations given the major transit hub role that Singapore plays in international aviation.”

Quotes attributable to Senator for Western Australia Glenn Sterle:

“Passenger services to and from Broome also provide access to belly hold air freight capacity for North West WA’s exporters and importers.

“This is great news not only for tourism, accommodation and hospitality businesses, but also for WA export industries and the jobs they support.”
