A strike force has been established as investigations continue following the discovery of two bodies in Burwood yesterday.
Just after 8.45am on Monday (12 August 2024), emergency services were called to the courtyard of a building on Conder Street, Burwood, following reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command arrived to find the body of a man, believed to be aged 21. He is yet to be formally identified.
A crime scene was established, and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As part of inquiries, officers attended a unit of the building complex where they located the body of a woman, also believed to be aged 21, with stab wounds. She is yet to be formally identified.
A second crime scene was established and will undergo forensic examination.
Detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Torphins to investigate the deaths.
Initial inquiries indicate the pair are known to each other.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted in coming days to confirm the identity of the man and woman, and to determine cause of death.
