Investigations continue into discovery of human remains near Hay, NSW

Investigations are continuing after human remains were discovered in south western NSW on the weekend.

Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District were called to the Cobb Highway, about 20kms south of Booligal, after reports unidentified human remains were located in a white burnt-out Nissan Tiida by a passer-by about 9.30am (Sunday 6 January 2019).

A crime scene was established at the location.

The remains have been examined and will undergo forensic analysis.

Detective Acting Inspector Julia Bradley from Murrumbidgee Police District has said she would like to speak with anyone who saw the white sedan prior to it being found burnt out.

“As our inquiries continue, we would like to speak to anyone who saw the Nissan Tiida in the 24 hours before it was found incinerated,” Det A/Insp Bradley said.

“It could have been at a service station, a rest stop, or even a restaurant. We know there were several funerals in Hay over the weekend and people were travelling from Booligal, Ivanhoe and surrounding townships to attend.

“The crime scene location can only be seen when travelling north upon the Cobb Highway (known as Booligal Road to locals), as the southbound view is obstructed by trees, shrubs and mounds of dirt.

“It is possible that someone may have seen the vehicle at the location either before or after it was burnt out, or they may even unknowingly have dashcam vision.

“We would really like to speak to anyone who remembers seeing the car,” Det A/Insp Bradley said.

Anyone who has information about the white Nissan Tiida is urged to contact Griffith Police Station on (02) 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
