Police are appealing for the public’s assistance as they investigate the cause of a large-scale bushfire burning in the state’s northeast.
On Sunday (27 October 2019), emergency services were called to reports of a bushfire in the Nundle State Forest, about 60km southwest of Tamworth.
On Monday (28 October 2019), officers attached to Oxley Police District – with the assistance of NSW Rural Fire Service fire investigators – commenced inquiries into the cause of the fire.
About 10am yesterday (Wednesday 30 October 2019), Investigators from Oxley Police District, with the assistance of the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services Command, attended the scene and conducted forensic examination of the site.
Fire fighters from NSW Rural Fire Service and Forestry Corporation NSW continue to work on containing the fire which has burnt 1205 hectares.
Inquiries continue.
Oxley Police District Acting Crime Manager Jason Darcy urges the public to report any suspicious activity.
“Police are seeking assistance from the Nundle community who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area where the fire originated on Sunday,” he said.
“Police are also seeking assistance from the community with any video footage relating to the incident, including images posted to social media.”
