Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are seeking to identify a car and its occupants after firearms and weapons were seized in Thornbury in October.
Detectives believe the late model Land Rover was travelling in convoy with another vehicle which was intercepted by police in Gooch Street on 18 October about 8.10am.
The vehicle in question can be seen on CCTV just prior to the intercept on Newcastle Street about 8am.
It is believed the occupants of the Land Rover may be associates of the two men arrested and charged at the time when alleged firearms, weapons and drugs were seized.
Detectives have released images and vision of the car in the hope it will assist the investigation.
The men arrested following the Gooch Street intercept, a 25-year-old Oakleigh man and a 25-year-old Burwood East man, were charged with a range of offences including:
• non-prohibited person possess not registered longarm,
• non-prohibited person possess general category handgun
• possess drug of dependence, cannabis and 1’4 butanediol
• possess prohibited weapon, including for extendable baton, laser and axe,
• possess proceeds of crime
• possess ammunition
• possess trafficable amount of firearms
• prohibited person possess a firearm
The Oakleigh man appeared before court and is expected to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 4 April 2023.
The Burwood East man was bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 23 March 2023.
