The ACT Government’s Future of Education Strategy sets out a plan to invest in public school teachers, acknowledging that teachers are expert professionals highly skilled at working with their students to lead them through their learning journey.
The Teacher Scholarships Program provides further education for teachers as they continue to educate students in ACT public schools.
Pursuing further study can be expensive, and that can be a barrier to teachers interested in expanding their own education. This scholarship program takes that financial burden out of the equation and allows teachers to become even more expert in their profession.
This year, the Teacher Scholarships Program will offer two streams of scholarship, the Priority Area Scholarship and the University of Canberra Master of Education scholarship with the full program worth approximately $250,000.
The Priority Area Scholarships range from $2,000 to $10,000 and are targeted to the priority areas of languages, students with complex needs or challenging behaviours and STEM subjects.
Additionally, there are 30 University of Canberra Master of Education scholarships available in partnership with the University of Canberra, through the Affiliated Schools Program, who also financially support the cost of the Masters for public school teachers.
Teachers are the single most important factor, after family background, when it comes to the educational outcomes of children. It’s so important that the ACT Government supports teachers to develop, not just for their own aspirations, but also because it is an investment in the next generations to come.
By investing in the careers of our teachers, we are also building a better future for our students, and for our community.
