Investing in TasTAFE to secure Tasmania’s future workforce

Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is putting learners at the centre of everything we do at TasTAFE because they are our future.

They are the workforce we need to keep our economy strong and our $114 million investment into TasTAFE is delivering new buildings and facilities for these students to learn in across the State.

Work has begun on a $500,000 upgrade at TasTAFE Drysdale Hobart, which will see Tasmania’s budding butchers train in contemporary facilities.

This significant investment will refurbish a former training kitchen into a shared, versatile space that will accommodate butchery and other hospitality training.

The start of these works comes right after the successful completion of another project at Drysdale to upgrade a service kitchen into a commercial cookery training kitchen.

These new facilities will mean more spaces for hospitality students at TasTAFE to learn skills and hone their craft.

In Burnie, the first stage of the new Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence will come online next year – a $5 million project that includes new learning and conference areas, an exhibition space, a mudroom, and upgrades to stockyards and irrigation.

At Alanvale, we will be progressing the Health and Community Service Hub and are actively working with key stakeholders like the Mental Health Council of Tasmania and TasCOSS.

At Clarence, the $26 million Water and Energy Trades Centre of Excellence will be a game changer for local students and industry, providing new opportunities for learners to get their start in a world class facility.

At Campbell Street, we will also be building TasTAFE’s first ever Cyber Security Operations Centre, which will allow learners to access training in an area where the number of jobs are only growing by the day.

Under the Tasmanian Liberal Government, the State’s completion rate of VET is leading the nation, and we are committed to ensuring Tasmanians can access the training they need to get a job.
