The new Town Hall Broadmeadows Gallery will hold an exhibition created by local award-winning artist and photographer, Ahmad Sabra. Invisible Frontiers presents the contemporary experience of a Muslim person living in Australian society.
Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said Broadmeadows local, Ahmad Sabra’s earlier work focused on documenting Middle Eastern communities displaced by armed conflict, but in his current work, he offers his perspective of the world and considers nationality, loyalty and faith in Australia.
“Hume’s gallery spaces provide opportunities for the community to experience artistic expression across a range of mediums, as well as exploring the ideas and experiences presented by the artist,” Cr Moore said
“With Town Hall Broadmeadows Gallery now open and the Hume Global Learning Centre – Sunbury Gallery soon to open, I am very pleased Hume City will soon offer three gallery spaces hosting local and curated exhibitions.”
Invisible Frontiers is a three-part project that investigates objective perceptions of Australian Muslim culture in contemporary Australian society. Ahmad Sabra uses photography and film to question stereotypes, exploring personal issues and perspectives of Muslim identity within an ever-evolving notion of ‘Australian Culture’.
This exhibition offers a thoughtful and at times humorous reflection on the artist’s lived experience of navigating personal religious beliefs in a world where those beliefs are often misunderstood or stigmatised.
