IRONMAN Western Australia locked in for another three years amid sellout success

  • WA Government confirms its support for IRONMAN events in Western Australia for three years to 2026
  • Thousands of athletes travel to Busselton annually to compete in the popular events
  • IRONMAN 70.3 Western Australia Asia-Pacific Championship event in December is already a sellout
  • Supported by Western Australian Government through the Regional Events Program

IRONMAN Western Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Western Australia have been secured for Busselton for another three years, with the WA Government announcing funding for both until 2026.

The new deal has been signed just as the IRONMAN 70.3 WA Asia-Pacific Championship was declared a sellout, with the separate IRONMAN WA expected to follow soon.

The two events are expected to contribute more than $27 million to the South West economy over the next three years, drawing competitors and spectators from 41 different countries including Singapore, Japan, Great Britain and the United States of America.

The festival is headlined by the pinnacle IRONMAN WA triathlon, which consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run, and is one of the most popular circuits in the world due to its flat and fast course.

As well as being the Asia-Pacific Championship in 2024, IRONMAN 70.3 WA is part of the brand-new IRONMAN Pro Series, which will see top professional athletes go head-to-head at events around the world, with Busselton to host the penultimate race in the series.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

“IRONMAN Western Australia has been a staple in WA’s calendar of mass-participation events for many years, and we’re really proud to lock in our support of two key events as part of this iconic sports festival for another three years.

“Large-scale mass participation events like these create vibrancy in our regional communities, generating employment and volunteering opportunities that bring the community together.

“Of course, it’s also another great opportunity to highlight some of the most stunning scenery that Busselton has to offer, including the iconic Busselton Jetty, and provides fantastic exposure of the South West region on a worldwide scale.”

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“This hugely popular annual event shines a global spotlight on Western Australia’s South West and the beauty of the State’s natural wonders, as well as supporting local businesses in the community, and we’re thrilled to confirm our support for another three years.

“Events are vital for supporting and diversifying our regional economies, and the WA Government is proud to once again be supporting IRONMAN Western Australia through the Regional Events Program.”

As stated by South West MLC Jackie Jarvis:

“This year marks the 20thanniversary of IRONMAN Western Australia, so it’s fitting that we’ve extended funding for another three years, especially because it’s become a much-loved annual event on the Busselton calendar.

“It’s always fantastic to see locals and visitors flocking to the region in their thousands for this event when December rolls around, and importantly, brings in valuable tourism dollars which support our local businesses and operators.”
