Upgrades to the Jack Dyer Pavilion in Citizens Park, Richmond are now complete.
The newly redeveloped building provides improved facilities for local sporting clubs who use the oval and a community space for broader community use.
“The upgraded Jack Dyer Pavilion in Richmond will provide much-needed facilities for local sporting clubs as well as the broader community,” said Yarra Mayor, Cr Sophie Wade.
“An increase in change rooms will help sporting clubs grow their membership and gender-inclusive change rooms for players and umpires will support increased participation in sport.”
The project received $2 million in funding from the Victorian Government in 2019 as part of the Local Sports Grant Initiative. Yarra Council committed a further $1 million to the upgrade in its 2019/2020 annual budget.
Consultation with the community on a draft design for the pavilion was carried out in 2019 to ensure the final upgrade met the current and future needs of the local community.
The upgraded pavilion includes:
- Four accessible and gender inclusive change rooms to allow the sporting clubs to increase membership.
- Gender inclusive umpire change facilities.
- New first aid facilities.
- Upgraded ground floor kitchen and servery for use by sporting clubs.
- Improved sustainability features, including water-saving fittings on taps and showers, solar panels on the roof and water harvesting for toilets.
- A new second-floor community space with lift access, a new kitchen and audio-visual equipment.
- More bike racks to promote sustainable transport in the community.
