Kiama Council plans to reopen Jamberoo Mountain Road in the first week of the next school term, which commences Monday 17 July.
Council had expected to be able to reopen the road by the end of June.
However, delays experienced by our contractors mean we have had to revise this timeline.
Our contractors have completed the work at sites 3B and 3D which involved manufacturing, drilling and filling 78 piles to stabilise the downhill side of the road in these sections.
They are almost finished work at sites 3A and 3C, where they are repairing the hills above the road.
This involves installing 170 soil nails to support the damaged terrain, before placing geofabric and supporting mesh over these sections as further reinforcement.
Once done, it is then a matter of resurfacing the road and (re) installing barriers and other safety infrastructure.
Council thanks our residents, business owners and visitors for your patience and cooperation during this project.
Our contractors are also nearly finished their work at Foxground Road.
They’ve completed the gabion cage to support the new section of road.
They’ve also poured the two concrete slabs forming this new section, leaving the resurfacing to be done.
Work is also well underway at Wallaby Hill Road, where our contractors are using 84 piles to reinforce the road before it is resurfaced.
The restricted space and more complex terrain have made for slower progress.
