Thursday, 7 December 2023 – Jetstar flew its 12 millionth customer to Newcastle yesterday, 19 years after it began operating from the New South Wales city and holiday hotspot.
Newcastle holds a special place in Jetstar history as the departure point of its inaugural flight from Newcastle to Melbourne on 25 May 2004.
Two decades later, Jetstar currently operates over 40 flights each week between Newcastle and Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns.
It carries more than 500,000 customers to and from Newcastle every year, supporting the tourism economy of the city and surrounding Hunter region.
Among the passengers flying on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 was the airline’s 12 millionth customer to touchdown in Newcastle. They were from the Marlin family with the airline surprising them with a special welcome gift.
Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer thanked the Newcastle community for its support of the airline over the past two decades.
“12 million customers into Newcastle is a huge milestone for us and one that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the people of Newcastle.
“Newcastle hosted Jetstar’s first ever flight and the fact that we have been able to grow our services to 40 return flights each week is a testament to our amazing Newcastle team and the local community.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr Peter Cock, congratulated Jetstar on achieving this milestone.
