Queensland continues to carry its weight on the job creation front, according to ABS Labour Force numbers released today.
Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the ABS data shows 5,300 new jobs were created in Queensland in April this year.
“Queensland’s trend unemployment rate in April also fell to 5.9% from an upwardly revised 6.0% in March and is significantly lower than the one we inherited from the LNP (6.6% off a 6.7% high),” said Ms Trad.
“Today’s data also means that 199,000 Queenslanders have now found work since the Palaszczuk Government was elected.
“This data shows that the Palaszczuk Government’s plan to create more jobs and build a strong economy for Queenslanders is working.
“We have a number of programs which support the Government’s Our Future State – Advancing Queensland’s Priorities to create jobs in a strong economy.”
“I am also pleased that almost 5,350 Queensland businesses have also benefitted from the Palaszczuk Government’s 50 per cent payroll tax apprentice and trainee rebate initiative with a collective rebate value since June 2016 of more than $75.6 million.
“Queensland’s payroll tax rate is already one of the lowest in Australia and apprentices’ wages are already exempt from payroll tax, this initiative provides an additional incentive for businesses.”
Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman said this month’s employment figures are show that our investment in job generating initiatives are working.
“We know that some Queenslanders have struggled to find the right opportunity to get a job and that’s why Back to Work and Skilling Queenslanders for Work is so important,” Ms Fentiman said.
“Just this week, Back to Work has reached a milestone with more than 19,000 Queenslanders assisted into work.
“And our successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative has assisted 37,000 Queenslanders to gain the job ready skills they need for a bright career – with more than 28,000 participants going on to get a job or further training.”
